OUR  HISTORY

Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home & Crematory History

In 1959, Samuel J. Scobee founded Scobee Funeral Home near the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and S.E. 4th Avenue in Boynton Beach. He was joined by L. Don Combs, L.F.D., who served as General Manager.

Three years later, in 1959, the funeral home relocated to its current location at U.S. Highway 1 and N.E. 15th Avenue. For many years, the funeral home also operated as the town’s only ambulance service, playing a vital role in the local community.

Mr. Combs soon became a partner in the business, and the name was updated to Scobee-Combs Funeral Home.

Over the years, the funeral home continued to evolve. As Mr. Scobee prepared for retirement, Mr. Combs took on more responsibility and became the sole owner. In 1970, he hired Michael W. Bowden, L.F.D., as General Manager. Just a year later, the facility was expanded to more than twice its original size. In 1976, a crematory was added on-site to better meet the needs of the community.

Mr. Bowden became a partner in 1977 and took on the role of President when Mr. Combs retired in 1991. Around the same time, longtime employee Timothy W. Hensley, L.F.D., became a partner as well. Following these changes, the business was renamed Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home & Crematory.

For over six decades, we’ve remained a family-owned and operated funeral home, proudly serving the Boynton Beach community. Our guiding principle remains the same: to care for every family with the same dignity and respect we would expect for our own.
