William Robert Merkle, of Boynton Beach, Florida, died on May 1, 2018 at the age of 85 years. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn Merkle, and their children, Laura Merkle West of John’s Creek, Georgia and Philip L. Merkle and his wife, Teresa of West Palm Beach, Florida, and his 6 grandchildren: Sean M. Sullivan, Taylor R. Sullivan, Merritt Sullivan, Paris Merkle Jones (Scott), Carly Merkle, and Keaton Merkle, and his Great Granddaughter, Auden Jones. His sister, Kitty Evans and his niece and nephews and their families also survive him.
He was a graduate of Shaw High School in East Cleveland, Ohio. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Ohio State University and his LLB Degree from Franklin University (Now Capital University) in Columbus, Ohio.
William practiced law in Palm Beach and surrounding counties in Florida for nearly sixty years and represented thousands of clients.
He loved music and sang first bass with the Delray Beach Chorale for more than thirty years. He sang in concerts with the Berkshire Music Festival at Canterbury Cathedral (England), Salzburg Cathedral (Austria), and several other venues in the states. He sang with his church choir at First United Methodist Church in Boynton Beach, Florida.
William was a past Board Member of The Haven and the I Have a Dream Foundation. He enjoyed visiting hospice patients for Vitas with his therapy dog, Sarah Palin(the furry love of his life).
He is the author of Bill’s Rhymes, a book of whimsical poetry that is available in all of the Palm Beach County libraries.
William was a long time member of the Free and Accepted Masons. He was a member of Boca-Delray Lodge No. 171 where he was a Past Master and a member of Boynton Lodge, No. 236. He was Past District Deputy Grand Master of the 26th Masonic District East and a District Instructor. He was a 32nd Degree member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Lake Worth and a Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
He lived well, was well loved, and will be missed.

The Family will accept visitors at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, corner of US Hwy. #1 & NE 15th Avenue, Boynton Beach, FL on Thursday evening, May 10, from 5 pm to 7 pm.
A Memorial Service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 101 North Seacrest Blvd., Boynton Beach, Florida on Friday, May 11 at 2 pm.
A Celebration of Life reception will follow the service at Delray Dunes Club house.
