William (Billy) J. Naughton Profile Photo
William J. (Billy) Naughton was born in Kilmallock, County Limerick, Ireland in 1933, one of 15 children of Nora and William Naughton. He attended the local boy’s school and the Christian Brothers College in Charleville, County Cork.
At 17, he went to England in search of work and in 1957 he came to the United States, first living in Manchester, New Hampshire with his sister, Kitty, where he became a lifelong fan of the Boston Celtics. A few years later, he arrived in New York and became a stalwart New York Met fan and a Stationary Engineer for the NYC Board of Education. He assisted in opening Junior High School 303 in Brooklyn and worked there for 35 years. 303 was more than just a job. He took the students under his wing, counseled teachers, and became a friend and confidant to the Principal.
Moving to Boynton Beach, Florida in 2011, he enjoyed the sunshine, the beach, and the Leisureville pool, where again, his smile attracted everyone to him.
Billy’s legacy is love. A good and decent man, he loved his wife, Mary, his children, Noreen and John (Amanda) and his grandchildren, Lilly and Liam. And he loved everyone he met. He was the living epitome of unconditional love.
A Celebration of Billy’s life will be held at St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church, 3300 South Seacrest Boulevard, Boynton Beach, FL 33435 on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 5:00 PM.
