DR. WILLIAM JEAN HEGSTROM
October 21, 1923 – August 9, 2019
Loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and teacher passed over on August 9, 2019.
Bill was a public school teacher originally in New Jersey but for most of his life in Palm Beach County after moving his family to Delray Beach in 1957. In his early years of teaching he also had a small business repairing radios and television sets in their infancy. He built 3 homes almost entirely by himself in Delray Beach.
He served in World War II and married “the perfect wife” in 1944, Grace Ann Paladino. They were married for 61 years until her passing in 2005.
Bill is an alumnus of Rutgers University, Purdue University, University of Florida, University of Miami, and has a Masters Degree and a PhD, as well as several awards from the National Science Foundation. He has also contributed to and written several textbooks. He was honored in “Who’s Who in America” and in “The World”. But probably he would say that his biggest accomplishment and what he is most proud of is being a perceptive teacher able to discover the meaning of individual differences in student abilities and making a difference in students lives.
Then after retirement he enjoyed some travel in his RV with his wife and got to see a lot of this country that he loved so much.
He is survived by his children, Elizabeth Maclean and husband, Joe, William Hegstrom, Jr. and wife, Kelly, Jean Kilbourne and husband, Mark and his grandchildren, Katie Kilbourne and Christina Simmons.
The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, corner of US Hwy. #1 & NE 15th Avenue, Boynton Beach, Florida.
