WAYNE EDWARD POVERSTEIN
Age 69, died on Monday, November 16, 2020 in Boynton Beach, Florida.
Wayne was born in Brooklyn, NY to Eleanor and Emanual Poverstein. He is survived by his wife of 29 years Mary Jane (Ryan), and his son, Shaun who resides in NJ. His sisters, Sherry Poverstein (Steve Barron) and Tracy Poverstein (Michael McQuade) and their families. His cousins, Candyce Stapen (David Kempler) and Brad Engelman (Mujen) and their families.
As he fought the good fight against that enemy, CANCER, he was surrounded by the Ryan sisters-in-law Anne Sowden, Pat Ryan and Ruth Ryan, who traveled long distances to ensure his end of life battle was filled with skilled nursing, loving care, and deep affection. His brothers-in-law Bill Ryan (Linda); John Ryan (Suzanne) and Martiy Ryan (Dayna) will miss his dynamic conversations over politics or sports. Wayne loved all his nieces and nephews as well as godchildren who will have great memories.
Wayne loved his dogs who always brightened his life: Pepper, Rexi, Erin, Zack, Dylan and ICE. He was an avid sports fan who loved the NY Rangers, NY Giants, even the NY Mets. He spent many a Saturday night at the Meadowlands and in Florida at the dog races to watch the harness racing on video.
Wayne was employed for 20 years at the Continental Insurance Company in various Accounting roles and another 20 years teaching religion and was Director of Technology at the Academy of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station, NJ when he retired.
He loved his friends from all parts of his life, work and school. In these last few months, he missed conversations with his family, his close friends, Alan and Ellie Goldberg, Steve and Denise Giasi, his friends from the Academy; Declan Burke, Beth Ellen Walsh, Peggy Kirby, Pat Demetrio, Sr. Mary Lou Bauman, Meryl and George Chorba, Jean and Michael Romeo, Bella Nathan Denise and Roger Kirscheim and Frank and Rosemary Shanley.
Also, his partners in Mahjongg: Selma and Seth, Carol, Roberta, Maxine, Laura and Amy. He was the only guy brave enough to face a club house full of women to play this game.
Due to Covid, we will be unable to celebrate his life at this time. Mass will be offered at St. Thomas More Parish in Boynton Beach at a date and time to be announced.
