Walter West, age 91, passed away peacefully at home on April 5, 2026, in Boynton Beach, Florida. He was born on September 25, 1934, in Munich, Germany.

Walter’s early life was shaped by extraordinary circumstances. Growing up in Germany during World War II, he survived one of the first air raids on Munich on September 20, 1942, digging his way out from the rubble of his family’s basement. He spent the remainder of the war years with his family in the small town of Burk near Gunzenhausen.

Following in the footsteps of his parents, Walter pursued the trade of butchery and attended Fleischer Berufschule in Frankfurt. At the age of 21, in 1955, he emigrated to the United States in search of the American Dream. While living in NYC, he met the love of his life, Anna, on 86th Street in Manhattan. After serving two years in the United States Army, the couple married in 1958, beginning a loving partnership that would span 67 years.

In 1972, Walter and his family moved to upstate New York, where he became the owner and proprietor of West Alpine Pork Store in South Cairo. Known for his craftsmanship and dedication, Walter proudly served his community with his homemade German sausages and traditional Leberkäse, earning the respect and loyalty of generations of customers.

In 2002, Walter and Anna retired to Boynton Beach, Florida. There, he remained closely connected to his heritage as an active member of the German American Club of the Palm Beaches in Lantana, where he enjoyed friendship, culture, and community.

Walter will be lovingly remembered for his strength, work ethic, and devotion to family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Anna; his son, John; his daughter-in-law, Kimberly; his grandchildren, Natalie and Karl; and his great-granddaughter, Sawyer.

A private family ceremony will be held.
