WALTER R. (“Bob”) GILL

Walter R. “Bob” Gill, age 90, of Boynton Beach passed away on Friday, November 7, 2025, peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family.

Bob and his wife, Liz, were active parishioners at St. Mark Catholic Church and previously at St. Thomas More Catholic Church – both churches in Boynton Beach.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter R. Gill, Sr. and Elizabeth Gill, and his brother, John.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Liz; 6 children, John D. Gill (Gina), W.R. “Bobby” Gill (Davette), Joan Gill Patino (deceased, Henry A. Patino), Jane Parkman (Steve), Mary Ann Turnbull (Bill), and Chris Gill (Kristy); 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Born in Trenton, NJ, he attended Catholic grade school, until he was 10, when his family moved to West Palm Beach, FL in 1945. There he attended St Ann’s Catholic School, and then graduated from Spring Hill College, in Alabama. He joined the Armed Services in 1952, in the Army Reserves. After marrying the love of his life, they settled down in Boynton Beach where they started their family and joined St. Mark Catholic Church. Bob became owner of Belvedere 5 & 10 Variety Store, which he operated for 37 years (1956 – 1993), until his retirement.

As a man devoted to his Catholic faith, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4839 and was Grand Knight of the Council (1969).

For a period, they became parishioners at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, where he volunteered in their group’s outreach program that helped the underprivileged on the weekends by feeding the homeless in John Prince Park in Lake Worth. He also volunteered for the parish’s Thanksgiving meals events and annual Lenten Fish Fry dinners.

After a couple of years, they came back home to St. Mark’s Catholic Church. During his decades there, he served as a Lector, an Usher, and an Altar Server and helped organize and run St Mark’s first Bingo program. He participated as a money counter and a member of the St. Mark Bereavement Ministry group, and attended daily Mass.

Bob also supported Birthline (a Catholic Charities pregnancy care center) in Boynton - helping with odd jobs around the facility/office and attending and contributing to their fundraising functions. He was also very devoted to prayer, and his commitment to Diocesan Respect Life group.

Bob was a huge Miami Dolphin’s fan and was proud to have attended many games with his ‘best buds’ during their undefeated ’72 season. He was also an avid golfer – proud of his “Hole-in-One” and served as an officer of the Men’s Club at Cypress Creek.
