Vincent Michael Lombardi, 93, Boynton Beach, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 1, 2025.
Vincent was a native New Yorker. He graduated from Stuyvesant High School, City College of New York, Columbia University, and New York University where he was awarded a Ph. D in European Studies. He served as an Army Infantry Officer on the front lines during the Korean War, and eight years in the National Guard. He began his career as an advertising copywriter on Madison Avenue in New York City. A short while thereafter, he left advertising to pursue his first love: that of a teacher. He began teaching in a small private High School in upstate New York. Soon after he came to Long Island where he taught at Sachem High School and became Chairperson of the Department of Social Studies. After receiving his Ph. D, he became an Associate Professor at a local college and taught at the college level for many years.
He was a published poet, having won the National Poetry Contest for two years in-a-row. His leisure time was spent as a private pilot flying his Cessna 152 around Long Island and New England. After retirement, he moved to Manhattan and began lecturing at the Marymount Center for Living and Learning, this time in American History.
He was a voracious reader, and staunchly supported Civil Rights for all. He was world travelled, spoke four languages: Latin, French, Italian, and German. In 1991, Vincent became a Catholic. He served as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and member of the Parish Council at St. Vincent Ferrer Roman Catholic Church in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York City.
He is survived by his wife, Christine, of seventy-one years; his three children, Vincent Joel, Mark, and Lisa Lombardi; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Rose Christine Alex, and his brother, Carlo Lombardi.
Vincent was born September 26, 1931, in Queens, New York. He met his wife, Christine, through her good friend, and his cousin, Beatrice. On January 16, 2025, they celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at St. Mark Catholic Church, Boynton Beach, with Rev. Fr. Michael Sajda, OFM Conv. presiding. Committal services and burial, with Military Honors, will follow at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery, Royal Palm Beach.
