Victor Elmore Barrett passed away in Boynton Beach, Florida on September 30, 2021. Born June 26, 1926, in Westminster, SC, he was the youngest of eight children of James Edward and Bessie Ross Barrett. He was preceded in death by brothers Ross, Charles, and Frank, and sisters Grace Barrett, Ruth Graver, Jessica Adams, and Helen Petty. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Victor Barrett graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1947 with a degree in Journalism. After serving in the U.S. Maritime Service, he began his career in New York City with Prentice-Hall Publishers. He served as Vice President of Public Relations with the Manger Hotel Chain for eighteen years. He was President of the Hotel Sales Management Association and a consultant for Intercontinental Hotels. He was an executive with the American Express Company and the Sperry-Hutchinson Company. He owned and operated a bed and breakfast hotel in Charleston, SC in the early 1970’s.

Victor traveled all over the world, especially to his favorite city, Rome, which he visited 25 times. But he always loved returning to his hometown to visit with family and friends, reminisce about the good old days and enjoy homecooked meals.

Following his retirement, he lived in Cashiers, NC and Boynton Beach, FL.

Service will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 5th at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home at 599 NE 15th Ave., Boynton Beach, FL. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm at the funeral home.

On Sunday, October 30 at 11:00 AM, Victor’s remains will be laid to rest in his family plot at Hopewell Methodist Cemetery in Westminster, SC. At that time, there will be a gravesite service at Hopewell Methodist Church.
