Valentine J. Mateos, age 85, of Boynton Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend whose life was defined by love, family, and an enduring zest for living.

Val was born and raised in New York City, the only son of Valentin and Esperanza Mateos, who emigrated from Spain. He graduated from St. John’s University with a degree in Accounting. Val started his career at Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co, earned his CPA, and later worked at the New York Stock Exchange. After several years he established his own accounting practice, serving brokerage firms and private companies throughout New York City.

Val was steadfast in building an independent successful life, leaving a strong and lasting legacy. He taught those around him to live life to the fullest, to value tradition, while never losing sight that family mattered most of all. His strong work ethic greatly influenced his children and grandchildren.

Val was married to his devoted wife Alice for 62 years, having first met as college students. Together they raised 3 daughters and were blessed with 7 grandchildren who brought tremendous joy to his life. They began their life together in Brooklyn, later moving to Massapequa, New York, and spent summers in Breezy Point, moving there after retirement. In 2006, Val and Alice moved to Florida and joined Quail Ridge. Val was active in the community, serving on several committees. He had a natural gift for bringing people together, sharing memories and traditions, and found particular joy in the camaraderie of friends. A life-long athlete, Val enjoyed basketball, golf and following his favorite Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed traveling, hosting parties and dinners and was often seen on the dance floor.

He is survived by his loving wife Alice; his children, Marie Lorenz (Jimm), Pamela Bennett (Timothy), Lisa Francomano (Joseph); his cherished grandchildren, Owen, Hope, Tess, Liam, Joseph, Grace and Eva; and a wide circle of extended family and friends all of whom will miss him deeply.
