Thomas A. (Booty) Yacobozzi, who died December 30, 2014, in Boynton Beach, Florida, was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on June 23, 1939, son of Thomas A. Yacobozzi and Mary Margaret Logue Yacobozzi. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his beloved brother, Andrew J. (Booty) Yacobozzi, in 2011. Tommy was an outstanding athlete his entire life. During the 1940s, at a very young age, he began boxing with the Mighty Midgets and was known as The Mighty Atom because of his wind-up punches. Around the age of 12, he walked just about every day to Glenwood Golf Course in Erie carrying his bag of clubs to caddy there and later in the day to golf. He participated in sports beginning in junior high school, including baseball, basketball and golf, winning many letters and awards. He attended Strong Vincent High School, where he was voted Most Outstanding Athlete in his senior year of 1957, excelling in golf, football, baseball and basketball. He attended Edinboro State Teachers College following high school and taught history and social studies in the Erie School District for several years before moving to Florida more than 40 years ago. While in Florida he worked at Hunter's Run Golf Club for many years, retiring several years ago. After retirement, he continued to work at the course so he could continue to play his favorite lifetime golf game. Tommy had a language of his own and everyone who knew him were always entertained by his wit and special humor. He is survived by his much loved companion and caregiver of 20 years, Roberta Farley, two daughters, Heather Yacobozzi and Brooke Yacobozzi, and four grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Ann Yacobozzi, and several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015 at the Brugger’s Funeral Home in Erie, PA.
