THOMAS J. BOYD, JR.
1959-2018
Our family is saddened to announce the passing of Thomas J. Boyd, Jr. on September 10, 2018 following a courageous battle with cancer.
The youngest of 3 children, Tommy was a true military brat, born at USAF Hospital, Scott AFB, Illinois. When he was 4, the family was assigned to Rhine Main AFB in Germany and while waiting for base housing, they resided in the neighboring town of Waldorf. Within a couple of months, Tommy became the translator for the landlady who spoke no English and the family who spoke no German. He was a true intellect, possessed an incredible memory for all things (particularly those regarding classic rock and NASCAR) and was a talented artist and musician. Tommy’s wealth and breadth of knowledge, his sense of humor and outgoing personality enabled him to be an incredible conversationalist and storyteller. He readily engaged all he met in lively conversation and was always easy to locate in a crowd due to his infectious laugh and incredible smile.
As so eloquently stated by his nephew Chris, "Heaven just got much more livelier when they called my uncle Tommy home…he was more than just an uncle - he was our friend, an influence, a co-worker, and the life of the party. He defied the odds by living a quality life longer than expected despite cancer. And he was determined to enjoy his time here until he could no longer. We are thankful that he passed peacefully, quickly, and mostly free from pain." We were blessed to have had the chance to spend these past few months enjoying dinners together, concerts and lively games of pool. We will truly miss how he always made us laugh.
Tommy was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother and uncle. He was predeceased by his parents CMS Thomas J. Boyd, Sr. and LaVelle E. Boyd, as well as his sister Shaunie of Falls of Rough, KY and brother-in-law Bill (Dee) of Crossville, TN. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Beth of Boynton Beach, FL, his cherished son, TJ (Amy) of Mill Creek, WA, sister Cheri (George) of Ocean Ridge, FL and sister-in-law Suzie (Patrick) of Lantana, FL. He also leaves to cherish his memory nieces and nephews Megan, Carrie (Jose), Chris (Kirsten), Danny (Jill) and Dennis (Sarina).
