Our beloved wife, mother and sister, Theresa Solomon, 82, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at her home in Boynton Beach, FL. She was born on April 5, 1933 in Glassport, PA to Quirino (Tony) and Assunda (Salvi) Fato.
Theresa grew up in Glassport, PA. She graduated from Glassport High School in 1951. Theresa always had many found memories of her youth to share. She was a middle child of 5 and trouble always found her and her younger sister, Louise. Even though times were tough, there was never a short supply of ice cream outings, museums with her father and family. The Italian family home was always fun and bustling with all her aunts, uncles and grandparents. She was a loving and devoted daughter and sister. Up until the end she had a special bond with her sisters. She was never short of her opinion and concern for them. She was employed most of her life as a bank teller and enjoyed working with the public and always had numerous tales to share with her family and friends.
After meeting on a blind date, Theresa later married her sweetheart, George Solomon of Irwin in 1956 and they were happily married for 58 years. They loved to dance and enjoy family and friends. They had lots newlywed bliss but were anxious to start a family and after several unfortunate and sad losses they were happy to welcome a son, James “Jimmy” Solomon then soon after a daughter, Suzanne Solomon named “ Suzie” by her big brother and then finally along came another daughter, Martha “ Marti” Solomon. Theresa was a wonderful mother who tirelessly along with her husband gave her all to their children. Theresa and George were very strong in their Catholic faith and raised their children accordingly. She made sure birthdays were always special yet chores were just as important. She always had the kids dressed best in clothes she made that her children were always happy and proud to wear. Theresa along with George devotedly attended all the school and numerous extracurricular activities of the kids. Holidays were always lots of fun and big occasions with extended family at her home in North Huntington Township, Pennsylvania. Traveling was a big importance with the children in-tow. Many found memories with the children and extended family and friends at weekend trips to a little cottage in Shawnee, PA. Many times trips were made all jammed in either a VW Bug and eventually graduated to a station wagon. She was a much loved aunt and along with her husband, George who were lots of fun to all the nieces and nephews. She was an open and loving neighbor and very generous to all who were blessed to know her.
Theresa finally enjoyed her retirement after seeing her children raised. She and George decided to sell the family home and buy a house on the lake at Indian Lake in PA. Theresa and George soon became snowbirds and acquired a home in Cocoa Beach, Florida and for many years lots of fond memories were shared in both locations with family and friends. Eventually a decision was made to make the last move to S. Florida to Boynton Beach, Florida near her daughter, Martha and son-in-law Luis Jimenez. Theresa along with George soon made many friends and quickly became involved in the community and the church. She was a member of the Tuscany Bay Women’s Club, The Rounder’s Club, the St. Thomas More Columbiettes, and a close-knit women’s Bible study group. She loved assisting and working on the annual fundraising women’s tea at the church. She loved to play cards with girls at the club at Tuscany Bay. Her favorite game was canasta and she even learned how to play Mahjongg. She was an avid reader, especially mysteries and books about the south. Her favorite TV shows were Wheel of Fortune, Price is Right, Judging Amy and Jeopardy.
Theresa’s highlight in life was the grandkids, Matthew and Audrey Jimenez. Living nearby permitted her to enjoy many fond moments and pleasures with the grandchildren. She loved being called “grandma” and was always active in the moment with them. She will be remembered for her imaginative stories, silly expressions like oki-doki, and many card and board games. Theresa and George celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary aboard the Disney Magic cruise ship with the grandkids, “partying with Mickey.”
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents Quirino, and Assunda Fato her son James, brother Frank Fato and sister Louise Fescemyer.
