THERESA A. O’CONNOR
Age 78 of Boynton Beach passed away Dec. 9, 2018. Theresa was predeceased by her brothers, Eugene, Francis and Patrick and her sister, Nora O’Connor Pagano. She is survived by her sister, Veronica O’Connor Maguire; dear friend, Theresa Cahill and numerous nieces and nephews.
Theresa joined the Bereavement Ministry at St. Mark Church in 2005. She originally moved to Ft. Lauderdale from Brooklyn, New York in 1957 when her parents retired there. She attended Barry University, received a teaching degree and taught in elementary schools for 12 years. She then made a career move to become the Executive Secretary to the President of Johnson Maritime Services in New York. In 1985 she decided to join the US Postal Service, working as a letter carrier and then a window clerk, so that she could transfer to Florida to be near her aging parents. She retired in 2002.
Theresa is a cancer survivor. She started the “I Can Survive Cancer” support group for working adults with cancer, which she led for 10 years. She then enjoyed helping the “wonderful people in the Bereavement Ministry”. She saw this as a way to give back to others and thank God for the benefits He has bestowed upon her. She was recently diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease so she could not help as much as she would like, but she did whatever she could.
Theresa thanks Sr. Mary Joan for preparing the ministers for this rewarding ministry where one gets back much more than is given. She thanks all the friends she has met in this ministry who are very special people sharing God’s love with others.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, December 17, 2018 at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, corner of US Hwy. #1 & NE 15th Avenue, Boynton Beach, Florida. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at St. Mark Catholic Church, 643 St. Mark Place, Boynton Beach, Florida.
