Sujatha Ivatury Sharma was born May 1, 1959 in Hyderabad, India. She immigrated to Maryland with her family and went on to complete her bachelors degree in partying and football at the University of Maryland - College Park. She also holds a masters in biomedical engineering from the University of Miami. She battled progressive multiple sclerosis for over 30 years before peacefully passing away on February 15, 2016 with her two sisters by her side. Sujatha, affectionately know as "Choti" by her friends and family will be remembered for her wit, relentless spirit and unabashed optimism. Above all else, she will be remembered as a loving mother to her daughter Nitya, in whom she instilled the compassion, empathy and strength that Choti was always known for. She is survived by her mother Anusuya Sankaran, her daughter Nitya Sharma and son-in-law Dr. Naresh Jegadeesh, as well as her twin sister Suvarna Hippalgaonkar and younger sister Sunanda Behara and their families. She is greatly loved by her many uncles, aunts and cousins and the favorite aunt to countless nieces and nephews (who have come to learn that Eeshani Behara is her favorite).
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to the National MS Society in her honor to continue efforts to fight this disease.
