ROYCE CARLTON BARNES
Age 68 of Delray Beach passed away on March 14, 2017. Royce was a resident of this area for 13 years coming from Oklahoma. He retired from the U.S. Army after 18 ½ years serving between 1966 to 1969, 1970 to 1973 and 1986 to 1998. After retiring from the military he became a self-employed carpenter. His faith and family were most important in his life. God and Jesus Christ were his guiding light and he shared his faith with everyone. Royce was strong, hardworking and fought the good fight of faith until the end. He was a loving husband and father. Royce formerly attended Grace Fellowship Church in Boynton Beach. He loved Oklahoma University football, basketball, college and pros and his 3 dogs, Koby, Tammie and Bentley. Royce earned many certificates in lay speaking, Stephens Ministries in the Army. He was a real estate broker in 2 different states—Maryland and Oklahoma and had a passion in woodcarving. He built a baseball diamond for his kids and others.
Royce is survived by his wife of 33 ½ years, Ava L. Barnes; 6 children, Hailey (Michael) McKnight, Natalie (Paul) Weita, Audrey Barnes, Wesley Barnes, Julie Nissley (Chris) Meyer, Megan Nissley Azad; grandchild, Stasia and 2 brothers, Ernie Barnes and Joe Barnes. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ernest and Virginia Barnes; sister, Gerry Barnes and 2 brothers, Danny and Donald Barnes.
The Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, corner of US Hwy. #1 & NE 15th Avenue, Boynton Beach. Military Honors will be held at South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, Florida (Lane #3) at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 22, 2017.
