Rose Beveridge passed peacefully away on
July 1, 2020 in Discovery Village in Boynton Beach, FL, with family members at her side. Rose was born on December 16, 1922 in the family home in Trenton, NJ. She was delivered by her great-grandmother, Carmina Radice Frascella, the most famous midwife in Trenton during the early 20th century. Rose was the daughter of Catherine and Francis O’Neill. After the untimely death of their mother while she was an infant, Rose and her brother, Joseph O’Neill, were raised by their maternal grandparents, Josephine and Joseph Russo, along with their eight children. Rose was educated in the Trenton school system. During World War II, Rose helped with the war effort as a Rosie-the-Riveter at General Motors and later at Goodall Rubber. After the war, she met and married the love of her life, William Jacob Beveridge. They were married at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Trenton and celebrated their marriage for 54 years. Rose was lovingly referred to by her husband as “My wild Irish Rose.”
Rose and Bill lived in Trenton until 1972, when they moved to Ewing Township, NJ. In 2013, fifteen years after her husband’s death, she began living with her two daughters in Pennington, N.J. and Delray Beach, FL. In December, 2019, she entered the assisted living facility in Boynton Beach, FL.
A devoted homemaker, Rose was known for her home cooking, large family meals, and the devotion she gave to her husband, daughters and grandsons. During the early years of their marriage, she joined her husband in working on Democratic political campaigns at local, state and national levels. For 20 years, she was employed by the NJ Division of Motor Vehicles. As a devout Catholic, she was a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament, Incarnation and St. James Churches. Rose and her husband enjoyed traveling throughout America and spent summer vacations at Long Beach Island, Atlantic City, and Seaside Park. She later enjoyed a Caribbean cruise and a trip to Las Vegas with her entire family. Rose enjoyed music and theater productions in Palm Beach County. She will be remembered for her gregarious tell-it-like-it-is personality, her spic-and-span housekeeping, and for being a cheerleader for all the achievements of her husband, daughters and grandchildren.
Rose Beveridge is survived by her two daughters, Kathleen Michele Brazell of Delray Beach, Florida and Venetta Rose Hurley, of Delray Beach, Florida and Pennington, N. J. Rose leaves behind two grandsons, Jeffrey Salamandra of Boca Raton, FL. and Jason Salamandra of Ewing, NJ. Two grandsons predeceased her: Venetta’s infant John Joseph Salamandra, and Kathleen’s son, Ryan Michael Fesko. Rose is also survived by two loving sons-in-law: James Brazell and John Hurley. She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements will be under the care of Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home in Boynton Beach, Florida. A private burial will take place at the Ewing Cemetery at the convenience of the family. At a later time, a celebration of her life will be held with family members and friends in New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that those interested contribute to The American Cancer Society or to a charity of their choice in Rose’s name.
