RITA MAE BOGGS
age 91 of Deland, Florida passed away peacefully Sunday, November 11, 2018 at her home in The Oaks in Deland, Florida. Rita was born Rita Mae Shoeman on June 30, 1927 in Barberton, Ohio where she graduated from Barberton High School. Rita was a graduate of Kent State University and received her Master’s Degree from Florida Atlantic University both in Education. She taught school for 31 years including 1 year in Japan at Johnson Air Force Base where she taught students of the Air Force personnel. Thus, began her lifelong love of the Japanese culture. Rita moved to Boynton Beach in 1954. She retired after a long career in Elementary Education in 1981. She had a lifetime love of all things that included Japanese dancing, clowning, hula dancing, belly dancing, line dancing and roller skating. Rita was a long time member and Past President of B.P.W., Past President of the Elkettes 1770, Delray Beach, former parishioner of St. Mark Catholic Church in Boynton Beach and was presently a parishioner of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Deland. Rita moved to New Port Richey and then to Deland in 2011 to be near her family and where she quickly found new friends and activities such as The Red Hats, Sassy Lassies and weekly lunch outings. A special thanks to Richard Hewitt for his love and care towards Rita. Rita is survived by her only son, William "Billy" Boggs and his wife, Beth; 2 grandchildren, Chase and Jillian Whorl and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 10:00 AM until 12 Noon on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018 at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, corner of US Hwy. #1 & NE 15th Avenue, Boynton Beach. The Funeral Mass will follow at 12:30 PM at St. Mark Catholic Church, 643 St. Mark Place, Boynton Beach. Burial will follow at Palm Beach Memorial Park beside her late husband of 51 years, Gene Boggs. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date at The Oaks in Deland. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity of your choice in Rita's memory.
