Richard was born in South County, Rhode Island to the late Richard Stone, Sr and Justine Houghton Stone.
He grew up in Providence, RI, until the family moved to Foster Center, RI., where Richard attended Ponagansett High School for his junior and senior years. He was a founding member of the Ponagansett High School hockey team and was a member of the team through graduation.
He attended University of Rhode Island and then worked as a welder in the Rhode Island shipyards. He eventually found his way to Wyoming, where he worked in the oil fields for several years.
In 1983 he came to Boynton Beach, Florida, where he started working for the City of Boynton Beach Parks Department at Oceanfront Park. He subsequently transferred to the Utilities Department and worked in both the East and West water plants. During this time he became active in the Blue Collar Union of SEIU, becoming a steward and then chief steward. During his time as steward he was known as a tenacious, thoughtful, reliable, and real supporter of his coworkers rights. He retired in 2004 as a Utilities Maintenance Mechanic, having worked for the city for 19 years.
Richard was a quiet activist, marching in Washington, DC in the 1960's, and working with the Blue Collar Union and being a mentor in the formation of the White Collar Union at the City of Boynton Beach.
He loved his music, the music of his day, and he especially loved the blues. He attended performances and concerts whenever he could.
Richard was a kind, thoughtful, compassionate and generous man. His family and his friends knew they could depend on him to always lend a hand. They will all miss him very much.
