In Loving Memory of Richard Juan Sierra
Ricardo, Rick, Don Chiche, Chichos, Jimmy, Bob, El Jefe – no matter the name, they all speak of the same remarkable man: Richard Juan Sierra. After a long, courageous battle, Richard passed away at home, surrounded by loved ones, in Lake Worth, Florida on Friday, April 11, 2025.
Born in Villavicencio, Colombia on July 15, 1961, Richard later moved to the United States and proceeded to graduate from Miami Dade College in 1983. He built a lifelong career in Information Technology, where his passion for computers and problem-solving earned him the affectionate nickname “Mr. Fix It”. Endlessly curious and deeply intelligent, Richard lived by the motto, “knowledge is power” and never stopped learning.
Richard had a love for tropical fish – especially his favorite, the aruana. He was also a major soccer enthusiast, from playing as a child to watching games and coaching as an adult. He was immensely proud of his Colombian culture and cherished the time he spent there, specifically on the farms. Above all, Richard loved his family. He treasured every family gathering and found joy in the simple moments shared with those he held dear.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 39 years, Giovanna Maria; son Richard Alvaro and his wife Danielle, grandson Charles Richard; daughter Cristina, daughter Marisa and her husband Gregory; mothers Nuria and Rosalba, brother German; sisters Luisa Fernanda, Carolina and her husband Igor, Johanna and her husband Sean; brothers-in-law Joseph and his wife Carmela, and Salvatore and his wife Susanne; along with several nieces and nephews and his faithful dog, Lola. He was predeceased by his beloved father, Alvaro and his loving in-laws, Angelo and Venera.
There will be no calling hours. A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VITAS Healthcare in Richard’s memory.
