Pearly Gobin Smallman peacefully passed away at home surrounded by family, on November 11, 2020. She was born on July 22, 1941 in Trinidad, West Indies. She had resided in Miami, then in Wellington, and finally in Boynton Beach, FL while snow-birding annually in Sylvania, OH.
Pearly was preceded in death by her parents, Ramharrack and Sursatie Gobin, her brother, Sooklal Gobin, and her sister, Ena Sinanan. Survivors include her devoted husband, Ernie; her sons, Roger (Sumintra), Sanjeev, Ravi (Sandra); her daughters, Karen (Ryan) and Kaveeta (George); her sister, Molly (Robert); her brothers, Boodram Roy (Lynette), Dr. Ronald Gobin (Radhika), Roop; 5 grandsons (Sanjeev Jr, Emmanuel, Taj, Dev, Jay); 2 granddaughters (Gabriella, Larissa); great grandchildren (Alexander, Gabriel); and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
She attended the elite Naparima Girls College and later attended nursing school where she received the highest honors. Pearly began her nursing career in San Fernando (Trinidad) and continued on this path when she moved to Miami in 1965. Her legacy includes a 30+ year career as a registered nurse with Palms West Hospital where she brightened the lives of her many patients and made lifetime friends with her co-workers. She retired in 2006 and moved to Boynton Beach.
Pearly was a devoted wife, a proud mother, an amazing grandmother, a caring sister, a loyal friend, and a true lover of life in every sense of the word. Her real joy in life was her husband, her children and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Pearly was an avid football fan. She especially loved the Miami Dolphins and the Florida State Seminoles. One of her greatest joys was watching the games with her family. She was also a faithful member of her church, enjoyed working out and was a stellar cook. She loved the ocean, traveling and most importantly cherished the precious time spent with her close friends and family.
A memorial service will be held at 6 PM Friday, November 20, 2020 at the Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home in Boynton Beach. The family will receive friends beginning at 5:00 PM. The family will celebrate Pearly’s life at a reception to be held immediately following the service.
