Paulette Vilmar, also known as Madame Odma, born Paulette Saint Julien, 69, of Lake Worth,
Florida, passed away at Bethesda Hospital on August 24, 2024. Born February 15, 1955, in
Mourea Liancourt Haiti to the parents of Nahome St. Julien and Precile Jean. My mom was the
first of 10 children. Therefore, she was more than a sister to them; she was also a second mother
to them.
When my mom was 18, she started dating my father, Odma Vilmar. A few years later they would
marry, and she would become the stepmother of Odma Vilmar’s four children. Together they also
had four children; Acson, Enick, Niomi and Sandra Vilmar.
In 1981 my mother left her two oldest children, Acson and Enick, with her parents in Haiti, and
traveled to America to be with her husband in Florida. Approximately 1 year later they had there
first daughter together, Niomi and 12 years later they had there last-born, Sandra Vilmar.
My mother was a very hardworking woman. When she came to America she worked in the
fields of McDonalds, Delray Marina, Tom’s Place, Advanced Dial, Publix, Manor Care & Avante
of Boca Raton, and she also did private duty as a nursing assistant.
My mom loved to cook, shop, walk, sing church songs and play cards with her husband. My
mom was also a good friend and a problem solver. If anyone had a problem Paulette had a
solution. My mom was very loving, kind and she always shared with others. She opened her
heart and her home to many people. She was affectionately known as “Mommy Po”.
In May of 2017, my mother was sick with a severe brain infection and was at death's door. She
spent 2 weeks in the ICU at Bethesda. She recovered but she was never the same. We were told
that she should have died seven years ago or, be in a nursing home unable to care for herself. But
God has the last say. In 2021 my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. We caught it early and she
was treated for it and it never came back. When people saw my mother, and I told them she was
not well, they did not believe me because she did not look like what she had been through. By
the Grace of God my mom was on her feet until her last day on earth.
My mom was family oriented and a devout Catholic. She believed in God and knew she was his
child. My mother was a good daughter, wife, mother, stepmother, mother-in-law, grandmother,
sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, family member and a good friend that everyone should have.
My mom was smart, strong, courageous and beautiful on the inside and outside. And this is why
I know my mother is in heaven smiling down on me.
