Norman Michael Abood, 88, of Boynton Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on November 24, 2024. Born in Worcester, MA on January 26,1936, Norm’s defining characteristics were his easy-going nature, sweetness, love, and dedication to his family and friends.
Norman spent his youth in Worcester, MA, and enjoyed summers at Oak Bluffs Martha’s Vineyard with his mother, Sadie (Paquette) Abood, and sister, Adele (Abood) Millette. He loved swimming and fishing. As a young boy, he enjoyed trips to Canada to visit extended family. In 1958, he married Madeline (Raya) Abood, the love of his life and his wife of 66 years. Norman graduated from Fitchburg State College with his Bachelor’s degree in 1972 and his Master's of Education in 1974. He spent over 30 years of his professional life as a Machine Shop teacher in the Worcester Vocational School system.
Norm had natural mechanical abilities that were put to great use in his early years working in a Machine Shop. He shared this knowledge with many students who subsequently had successful careers. Norm’s patient and supportive demeanor and methodical approach were ideal for contributing to the success of those he mentored. In his free time, you would find him cooking or puttering around the house doing home improvement projects and repairs. Norm was a fantastic cook and baker and renowned for his apple pies.
Norman was in the Navy Reserves for 8 years, having spent time in many ports on the Eastern Seaboard. He cherished the many cruises he went on with his loving wife Madeline, and delighted in having his children, their spouses, and his grandson join them. He also enjoyed playing slot machines at the casinos and getting together with friends and family for card games and penny poker.
Norman is survived by his sister Adele (Abood) Millette of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, his loving children Norman (Julie) of Morton Grove, Illinois, and Karen (Mike) Abood-Bruno of Leland, North Carolina, and his grandson, Christopher Bruno who resides in New York City.
Norman was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Madeline (Raya) Abood, his parents, Salim and Sadie (Paquette) Abood, and his brother, Robert Abood.
Norman will be remembered as a nice man known for his sweet nature and kindness.
