Norma Jean Dowell

Norma Jean (Borum) Dowell was born on May 3, 1935 in Dayton, Ohio. She went to be with the Lord February 26, 2021 in Delray Beach, Florida. After living seventy-five years in Dayton, Ohio she relocated to Delray Beach, Florida where she resided for the last 11 years. Norma Jean was a dedicated member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio where she worked as a servant leader of the hospitality ministry and coordinated many church activities and programs. After moving to Florida, she joined St. Matthews Episcopal Church and became an active member of Saint Matthew’s senior group. She was also a faithful prayer line member to Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church of Orlando, FL and the Inspired by God prayer line. She loved people and enjoyed participating in the Delray Community senior activities and she absolutely loved and looked forward to her Tuesday night Bingo. She will be fondly remembered for the love of family and friends and for her passion for cooking and hosting dinners for EVERYONE. She will also be remembered for her multitasking skills and her ability to create and maintain order. Managing the breakfast and lunch program at Miami Chapel Elementary School was one of her favorite jobs. She also worked as an assistant nurse at Stillwater Center and Montgomery County Home. Norma Jean enjoyed music and listening to WDAO was one of her favorite pastimes. She never missed Pam Byrd’s Saturday Morning Blues Show. We thank God for our Mom for the love and joy she displayed in rearing her children and extending that same love and nurturing care to her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. WHAT A BLESSING!
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Jordan Sr. and Anna Laura Borum, her husband, Louis Dowell, Jr., brother, Jordan Borum, Jr., Sister Betty Seldon, and daughter Nelia (Dowell) Blankinship. She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her sons Dewitt (Lula) Dowell, Mobile, AL, Rev. Donald EB (Kathleen) Hall, Michael Dowell, Dayton, OH, Terry (Daphne) Dowell; FL; Olivia (Robert) Knight, Boynton Beach, FL, Carolyn Lee, Dayton, OH Cynthia (Alferd) Payne, Orlando, FL, Pamela R. Thomas (Robert); Sister, Evelyn Reese, Trotwood, OH; Brother-in-law Walter Seldon Sr.; Sister-in-Laws, Carolyn Borum, Dayton, OH Carolyn Milliner, Huntsville, AL; grandchildren Tandi Lee, Christopher Lee, Tamara Thomas, Danta (Erica) Payne, Rian Rakestraw, Marcus Glover, Adrian Dowell, Branden Dowell, a very special friend, “her man” Herbert Plofsky and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Your wings were ready, but our hearts were not, we will miss you Mom.
