Mildred Creekmore Gragg passed away peacefully at her home in Boynton Beach on October 5th, 2023. Born April 3rd, 1930, in Jellico, TN to the late Walter and Cewall Creekmore, Mickey was the loving mother of Mike, Rick and David, and the cherished grandmother of Matthew.

Mickey loved growing-up in eastern Tennessee, where she was the Homecoming Queen and Secretary of her high school class and the Student Council President of her graduating class at St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Knoxville. Following graduation from St. Mary’s in 1952, Mickey moved to New York City for post-graduate surgical training at NYU, then relocated to Houston where she worked at Texas Children’s Hospital and had the opportunity to scrub under famed surgeon Michael DeBakey. She then returned to Tennessee and worked at Oak Ridge Hospital. It was there she met her future husband, Howard ‘Bud’ Gragg. They married in 1957 and moved to Boynton and started their family. In 1959, she joined the newly opened Bethesda Memorial Hospital as a part-time R.N. in the newborn nursery.

Mickey was proud of her career at Bethesda and touched the lives of many patients during her 33 years of service. She was named State of Florida Nurse of The Year 1983. Upon her retirement in 1992, Bethesda honored her with her own Mildred Gragg Day.

Mickey was preceded in death by her son, Michael, and her former husband, Howard. She is survived by her sons, Richard and David, beloved grandson, Matthew, daughter-in-law Jamie, sisters Edna Croley and Jeanne Nunnally, great nephew, Jordan Voght, M.D. and partner, Annie Davis, nieces Betty Soucy and Becky Nunnally, other nieces and nephews, and dear friends Sheri and Roland.

Mickey’s family would like to express special appreciation to Trustbridge Hospice and to her dedicated caregivers from Whitsym’s In-Home Healthcare – Darlene, Livie and Kaye.

To honor Mickey’s wishes, a private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to any charity of your choice. Arrangements by Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, Boynton Beach.
