February 20, 1937 — January 26, 2021

Mary Holmes Voss Profile Photo
Mary Owens Holmes Voss was born February 20, 1937 in Memphis,
Tennessee. Her parents were the late Justice of the Tennessee Supreme
Court Andrew Owens Holmes and the late Mary Fitzhugh Holmes.

Mayo, as she was affectionately known, recently celebrated 63 years of
marriage to her beloved husband Edwin Armstrong Price Voss. Their
union produced four sons - Edwin Armstrong Price Voss, Junior
(Suzanna), Andrew Owens Holmes Voss (Susie), Joseph Millsaps Fitzhugh
Voss (Emily Campbell) and Mark Hunter Voss. Six grandchildren round
out this immediate family. Mayo is survived by her husband, children
and grandchildren, as well as her sister Josephine Walt, who with her
husband John and their five children have produced many nieces and
nephews.

Mayo attended Hollins College in Roanoke, Virginia and later
transferred to Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where
she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity. She and Ed met,
were pinned, engaged and married there. They moved to Memphis where
Ed became a banker and Mayo became the mother of four sons, two of
which were asthmatics. This later necessitated a move to Arizona for
relief of their asthma. Early years in Arizona finally produced the
needed good health and the boys began to move to schools far from
home. After raising four boys, Mayo renewed her pursuits of horses
and tennis. She became an ace-rated tournament player, a
ribbon-winning horseback rider as well as a harness driver. Her
further pursuits resulted in her earning a degree in Equine Science.
She was also active in her church and a number of other organizations
including the Junior League, Daughters of the American Revolution, the
Colonial Dames, the Huguenot Society and others.

Mayo's primary goals in life were to raise her children and support
her husband in the faith, love and knowledge of her Savior Jesus
Christ.

Funeral services are planned for Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 10:30
