Mary T. Swieskowski, 92
Mary Theresa (Sears) Swieskowski died in her Delray Beach, Florida home on January
20, 2024 following a stroke and a one year battle with dementia.
The daughter of Patrick J. and Mary (Murphy) Sears, she was born in Springfield, MA
on July 30, 1931. She married Henry P. Swieskowski in 1952. After having 5 children
she attended American International College in Springfield, MA and graduated in 1968
as class valedictorian. She began work in an accounting firm and although she took
only 9 hours of college accounting she studied on her own and in 1972 and passed the
CPA exam on her first attempt. She practiced accounting in Bettendorf, IA and Sparta,
NJ before retiring to Delray Beach FL in 1992. After retirement she served on the
Board and as Treasurer of the Tropic Harbor Condo Association for over 20 years.
Mary was a natural speed reader since elementary school and routinely read more than
1 book a day. She also was an excellent bridge player after having learned to play with
her parents who needed to fill out a foursome.
She is survived by three children: Susan Jackson, David Swieskowski, and Mary
Cummins. Eight Grandchildren: C.J. Farra; Patrick, Ben, and Ellen Swieskowski;
William, Mary, and Anne Cummins; and Robert Gaston. Two Great Grandchildren: Ellis
and Celeste Swieskowski. Her brother Paul Sears also survives her. She was
preceded in death by her husband Henry, son Mark Swieskowski, daughter Laurie
Gaston, grandson Thomas Gaston, and brothers: James, Richard, and John Sears.
Mary will be remembered for resilience, selflessness, unbound love, and the strength of her ties to her family and friends.
