MARY ROSE SCALZO
Mary Rose was born in Utica, New York on July 12, 1941 and passed away in Boynton Beach, Florida on January 15, 2022. Her dad was in the Navy and her mom was a stay-at-home mom. When she was 13 years old her mom, dad and sister moved to Boynton Beach.
In 1960 Mary Rose graduated from Seacrest High School. Later she was asked to be Maid of Honor at her cousin’s wedding. It was then that she met her husband and a year later they were married.
They moved back to Boynton Beach and opened a restaurant called Poppa Pizza. They had two children, Lisa and Joey, who attended St. Mark and Cardinal Newman Schools. After Lisa and Joey graduated, Mary Rose went to work at Bethesda Memorial Hospital for 23 years which she “enjoyed very much”. She states that one of the good things that happened during that time was introducing herself to Father Richard and Father Michael; “they were very instrumental in bringing me back to church”.
Mary Rose retired in 2007 and immediately got involved in St. Mark Church. She met Sister Mary Joan and became a Core member of the Bereavement Ministry which she describes as “rewarding”. She also joined CCW and attended CHRIST RENEWS HIS PARISH weekend which she describes as “the most blessed event in my life. It gave me peace and brought me closer to Jesus.”
