MARIE COMBS
Marie Combs was born November 17, 1929 in Pembroke, MA, the 7th of 8 children born to Herbert and Stella Young. After graduating from Pembroke Schools, she attended nursing school at the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston. Shortly after graduation she moved to Florida, initially working in the emergency room at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Miami Beach. She met and married Richard Combs and they moved to Kentucky where she helped open and staff a string of hospitals for the miners and residents of rural Kentucky and West Virginia.
After a move to Boynton Beach in 1956, Marie worked in a local doctor’s office until her retirement in 1997. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard and 6 of her 7 siblings. She is survived by 3 children, Marshall “Bud” Combs of Summerfield, FL, Chris Combs of Boynton Beach, FL and Julie Schnabel (Carl) of Albany, GA. She is survived by 2 grandsons, Garry Combs of Honolulu, HI and Matt Schnabel of Clearwater, FL and her brother, Allen Young of Duxbury, MA and many nieces and nephews, including Kathy Smith-Olson of Stoughton, MA, who is more like a sister than a niece.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, corner of US Hwy. #1 & NE 15th Ave., Boynton Beach.
