MARGARET A. ACKLEY
Born to World War I veteran and his wife in 1921, Margaret was raised during the great depression in upstate New York. Margaret remained optimistic despite the looming of WWII and graduated from Syracuse Secretary School where she met her husband of 69 years.
She cared for 2 babies while her husband, Ray served in the U. S. Marine Corp in the Pacific theater until his return in the autumn of 1945.
Margaret stayed active as a wife, mother and working woman all her life and worked alongside her husband at the same places of business for over 25 years. They were always a team. M & R against the Wind was the theme that best spoke to their devotion to each other. In 1958 she and Ray brought their family to Florida where the children were raised and educated.
One of the great joys of their life was the fact that in their 5th decade they left Florida, took a year off to build a beautiful home in the mountains of East Tennessee near their son and daughter -in- law and children.
In Tennessee they became active in the oldest church in East Tennessee, Eusebia Presbyterian Church. In 1994, they returned to Florida and became active in the First Presbyterian Church of Boynton Beach.
Margaret was probably the greatest grandmother on the planet. Her five grandchildren, Lisa, Steven, Brant, Joy, and Eric had the opportunity to learn honesty, integrity, humility, and stewardship that so marked Margaret’s life. Margaret is remarkable in the fact that she cared for her mother, mother-in-law and father-in-law in her home at the end of their lives.
Margaret is survived by her son, Larry Ackley and his wife Judy and her daughter, Linda Swartz and her husband, Bob and five grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
