MADELINE “Dolly” BARILETTI
Madeline Bariletti, known to all her friends and family as Dolly, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on April 4, 2023.
Born in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn, to Rose and Salvatore Maggio in 1926, she was one of seven children. She worked along side her brother Charles and some of her sisters at Night Slipper to help support their large family. Dolly was very active in her church, St. Rosalies, as a member of a ministry called Holy Rosary Society of Pompeii. As a young girl, she contemplated joining the convent, but then she met the love of her life, Sergio Bariletti, and so the nunnery had to do without her. She married Sergio in 1953 in the newly built and dedicated Regina Pacis Shrine in Brooklyn, New York.
Dolly gave birth to two sons, John and Michael, who she adored. She supported anything her boys did, and encouraged them to be all they could be. She was an excellent homemaker who took meticulous care of her husband, her children, and her house. She loved cleaning and cooking. When her children were in school full time, she went to work as a sole stitcher on ladies’ house slippers at Fine Craft, Bush Terminal, in Brooklyn. She enjoyed working, but her family always came first.
Dolly loved gambling and spent hours feeding the slot or poker machines. She also loved to travel with her husband to various places including Fire Island Pines, the Poconos and Puerto Rico. When in New York, she enjoyed walks in Manhattan, especially during Christmas, Rockefeller Center and the stores on Fifth Avenue, among her favorite places to see. She loved music, loved to laugh, and simply enjoyed life.
She was predeceased by her husband, Sergio. She is survived by her son John and his husband, Thomas Camerlengo, her son Michael and his wife Maria, four grandchildren, John Jr., Anthony, Michael Jr, and Gina Marie. She is also survived by three Great Grandchildren, Viviana, Giovanni, and Michael III. She will be greatly missed by all her knew her and had the privilege of being a part of her life. In addition, she is survived by two sisters, Angelina Fiorello and Sophie DiGeralamo.
