Madeline Cecelia Abood, “Maddy”, 86, of Boynton Beach, Florida passed away on September 30,
2024.
Born Madeline Raya on March 22, 1938, in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, New York, her defining
characteristic was her deep devotion to her faith and family. Her greatest success cannot be
measured only by her achievements but by how throughout her life she guided so many people,
both young and old, to achieve their goals, personally, professionally and spiritually.
Maddy’s early years were spent in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn, surrounded by family and friends. She
enjoyed the beach and riding the Cyclone in Coney Island with her friends. As a young woman,
Madeline intended to join the convent as a nun but meeting the love of her life changed that idea
and in 1958 she married Norman Abood and moved to Worcester, Massachusetts. For 35 of her
nearly 40 years there she was an administrative assistant in the central administration of the
Worcester Public Schools. Soon after retiring she and Norman made their move to Florida.
Maddy was a communicant of St. Mark’s Catholic Church and an active parish member for many
years as an Extraordinary minister of the Eucharist and on the Council of Catholic Women. Maddy
was also an enthusiastic supporter of church activities and enjoyed enlisting her friends and
neighbors to help raise funds through ticket sales for church dinners and other parish activities.
Maddy was known for her strong will, determination, unwavering faith, and love for her family and
friends. They were always welcomed into her home for “mezza”, a good meal, laughter, singing and
dancing. She will be remembered for her humor, hospitality and generosity.
Madeline is survived by her beloved husband, Norman of 66 years, her loving children Norman
(Julie) of Morton Grove, Illinois, and Karen (Mike) Abood-Bruno of East Windsor, New Jersey and her
grandson, Christopher Bruno who resides in New York City.
Madeline is predeceased by her parents Said and Mary Raya Hashim, her brother Jack Hashim, and
her sister Lillian Williams.
A memorial service for Madeline will be held on October 9, at 11 am at St. Mark’s Catholic Church
in Boynton Beach, Florida. The service will be livestreamed using this link:
