Mabel Kahler Gilligan, 94, of Boynton Beach, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at her home.
Mabel was born om July 12, 1931, to Albert and Mabel Kahler (nee Fidler) in Philadelphia PA. She spent her early years in Philly in a house surrounded by a large extended family. As a teenager the family moved Norwood PA, where she graduated from Glenor High School in 1949. After graduation Mabel proudly worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad.
Mabel met her soulmate Richard Alan Gilligan Sr in 1953 at a USO dance. They married in 1954 and Richard Alan Gilligan Jr arrived in 1955 followed by Sandra G Allen 1956. Carol A Gilligan arrived several years later in 1963. In 1972 the family moved to Delray Beach FL. Mabel started working for Sun Bank and worked for more than 25 years before retiring. The couple then moved to Boynton Beach Leisureville where she became active in community activities. Starting the Computer Club, being involved with the community newspaper and many other activities.
Mabel was predeceased by her parents, her husband Richard Alan Gilligan Sr (2010) and her older sister Marilyn Downs (2006). She is survived by her children Richard Alan Gilligan Jr (Diane), Sandra G Allen (Richard), Carol A Gilligan. Her grandson Christian Gilligan (Renee) as well as their 4 children Gabriella, Fiona, Connor, and Daniel. She is also survived by her sister Diana Laier as well as nieces and their families.
Inurnment will take place at 9:00 a.m. Monday, November 24, 2025, at South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 S. State Road 7, Lake Worth. Those attending will gather in Lane 1. That evening, at 5:00 p.m. Monday, a Memorial Service to honor Mabel's life will be held at SCOBEE-COMBS-BOWDEN FUNERAL HOME, 599, N.E. 15th Avenue, Boynton Beach.
Following the Memorial Service, there will be a gathering in the Leisureville Clubhouse from 6:30 to 9:00 pm to further celebrate Mabel's life.
