Lillian Marie Degasperis Profile Photo
Lillian “Lily” Marie DeGasperis, like the flower, was a symbol of innocence, purity, and beauty. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and loyal friend, who passed away on Thanksgiving Day with her family by her side.

Lily was born and raised in The Bronx, NY, to Fred and Mary Schaefer on September 16th, 1937. She married the love of her life, Patrick DeGasperis on February 22nd, 1959. Together, they had three sons who were her pride and joy.

She worked many years for NY Telephone after graduating Columbus High school in the Bronx. Once her boys were grown, Lily returned to work as an Executive Secretary for Hemsley Spear Real Estate.

Anyone who knew Lily was touched by her kindness, humor, infectious smile, and mild temperament. She was truly a peace maker and was always a source of positivity. She brought joy to all those around her.

Lily was excited to share her ability to say the alphabet backwards, complete the Daily Jumble, and Word Search brain teasers. When visiting with Lily, her Precious Moments collection would be a topic of conversation, along with her photo albums and paintings.

During her life, she enjoyed helping in the boys Little League Ladies Auxiliary, being the local bowling league secretary, and supporting the homeowner’s association in any capacity.

Baking Christmas cookies for her family, going to Biloxi to play the slots, bowling with her friends, visiting with her grandchildren, playing dominos with her family, cards (Pinocle) with her sister on Friday nights and traveling on the many cruises were some of her favorite past times. She enjoyed the smell of a nice cigar which brought back childhood memories of her grandfather. When Lily was relaxing, you would always find her reading one of her favorite authors, James Patterson or David Baldacci.

She is survived by her husband Patrick, her brother Fred Schaefer II of El-Paso, TX, her three sons, Patrick, Jr. and his wife Julie of Boynton Beach, FL, Eddie and his wife Jessica of Yorktown Heights, NY and Rich and his fiancé Kim of West Milford, NJ along with her 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
