Leonard “Lenny” Staats passed away suddenly on November 4th 2019 as a result on an aneurysm. It was his 56th birthday! He was born in Akron Oh on November 4th, 1963 and graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School and the University of Akron.
Shortly after graduating college, he moved to Winston Salem, NC where he met the love of his life Melissa Hulvey. He lived the past 17 years in Lake Worth, Florida.
Lenny worked most of his career in the Tire Business. He was employed the past 10 years as the Manager of Boulevard Tire in Riviera Beach Florida. He was the former President of the West Boynton Football League.
He is survived by his wife Melissa and his son Austin who was his best friend! Parents Charles and Caroll Staats of Cuyahoga Falls OH and brother Rodney Staats (Kelli) of Stow Oh, nieces Allison, Ashley and Abbey. In-Laws Robert and Pearlie Hulvey and many other family and extended family in Ohio, N. Carolina, and Florida.
Lenny LOVED Football! He loved coaching Austin’s teams throughout the years and developed strong bonds with the players, parents, and fellow coaches. He treasured these relationships deeply!
He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his wildly entertaining stories. He loved the Ocean and was an avid Scuba Diver. The highlight of his dives included a trip to the Coral Sea in Australia with his wife Melissa. His son Austin is also a skilled diver and the three of them had several memorable family dive trips. He also loved Deep Sea fishing and was a skilled captain. His most recent fishing trip was in June and included Austin and his longtime friends Rob Cogdeill and Bob Petrone to the Minnesota Boundary Waters.
Anyone who knew Lenny knew that he had a love for Classic Rock and he attended hundreds of concerts over the years including Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Rush, Neil Young, and the Rolling Stones to name just a few.
When talking to his friends from the North, his “go to” quote was “The weather is here, wish you were beautiful” but his favorite quote was “It’s all about the kids”!
Friends will be received at Faith United Methodist Church, 6340 West Boynton Beach Boulevard, Boynton Beach, Florida on Friday, November 8, 2019 from 3:00 PM until the service time at 5:00 PM.
