Captain Kim Morrison
Kimberley Brooke Morrison, 74, passed away peacefully at home in Lake Worth,
Florida on April 3, 2022 surrounded by family.
Born November 6, 1947 in Bolivar, New York, Capt. Kim attended Embry–Riddle
Aeronautical University before realizing his calling to the ocean. He was no
stranger to the water, having spent summers as a youth on the New Jersey
seashore. Working first as a mate to support his wife and son, young Kim soon
acquired his captain’s license and began operating his own charter boat, The
Bacardi, for several years before running night charters on the Big Ben. He spent
the next 21 years as captain of a private sportfishing boat, The Three R’s. Kim
owned several boats throughout his career which allowed him to offer charters,
sport fish, commercial fish, and recreational fish as he desired on both the
Atlantic ocean and Intracoastal Waterways. Kim was well known in his industry,
and his prowess as a captain, guide, and fisherman allowed him to do what he
loved every working day of his life. He was an expert at teaching “newbies” to
fish, masterful at telling nearly unbelievable fish tales, and delighted to give
anyone who would stand around and listen a good-natured hard time. Put
simply, Capt. Kim was both a class act and a character. He watched the sunrise
over the Gold Coast waters for more than 50 years and would say, “I’ve lived in
Heaven.”
Capt. Kim (a.k.a. Pop to his grandchildren) will be forever missed and lovingly
remembered by his beloved wife, Kathleen Culbert, his doting children; son Todd
(Michelle) Morrison, daughter Kimberley (Art) Mowery, daughter Carolyn Seal
(Doug Konz), and his grandchildren; Sara (Stephen), Audra (Josh), Madelyn,
Morgan (JR), Sebastian, Jake, Emily, and Ashley. Kim is survived by siblings
Phil Morrison, Gale Glenn, S. Brooke Megrue, Scott Morrison, Lynne Jensen, and
Debbie Corliss. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Phillips Lovering
and Sarabelle Brooke Morrison, and sisters, Sondi Bostic and Christine Cookson.
Capt. Kim will take his last sunrise trip out of the inlet to be buried at sea on
Saturday, April 16, 2022. Family and friends are welcome to attend and wish him
“fair winds and following seas” from Lantana Beach. A celebration of life will be
held beginning at 11 a.m. at The Hive Waterfront Restaurant located at 2412
Floral Rd, Lantana, FL 33462.
