Kenna Lou Holzen, age 83, of Boynton Beach, Florida, died on November 25, 2022, in her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Mary, brother, Jim, and sister, Marla. She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Maggie, Becky, Carole, Richard, Marie, Janet, Jack, Dale, and Tim. Kenna was especially beloved by her son, Tadd, daughter, Lori (Tattersall), and three grandchildren Riley, Lucas, Ryan, as well as her partner, Peter Niemeyer.
Kenna grew up in Franklin, Ohio and was the oldest of twelve children. She helped her mother care for her brothers and sisters before leaving for nurses training and later marrying in 1960. She went on to become a nurse and administrative professional in the health care field for more than 50 years. During her time in Centerville, Ohio, she raised a family and completed her bachelor’s and master’s degree in health care administration. Her work took her from Ohio to San Diego and then later to South Florida, where she made her home. Kenna enjoyed traveling and visited Alaska on a sailing trip in 2000. She became very interested in sailing from that point on but in the warmer climes of Florida, where she met Peter, her partner of more than 20 years. She enjoyed sailing and was an active member of the Palm Beach and Castaways Sailing Clubs. She especially enjoyed traveling to Europe and the weeks spent there gave her a chance to enjoy the culture, cuisine, but most especially time with friends.
She will be missed for her patience, determination, quick wit, dedication, empathy, humor, ready smile, calm care in a crisis, but especially her ability to listen. She was an extremely positive person and was caring towards others, even assisting young couples with marriage counseling. Whether you met her for a short time or knew her for a lifetime you were touched by her positive spirit. We were all better for having her in our lives. She was loved and will be truly missed.
She was laid to rest next to her grandfather, CF Lucas and grandmother, Carrie “Midge” in Washington Court House, Ohio, who were both instrumental in her life.
