John was born 1925 at home in Oyster Bay N.Y.
The son of Benjamin & Angelina Lizza, two brothers
Benjamin & Carmen. He has nine nieces and nephews- Tommy,
Nancy(his God daughter) Carol, Peter, Scott, Donna, B.J., Glen &
Joel.
He graduated H.S. in 1946 from the Institute for the Blind in Bronx N.Y.
with 10 other blind students. In July 2017 they met for the 70th time
with the remaining classmate, Enid, Dominica, & Analina who could not
be there so they spoke to her on the phone.
He graduated from Queens College in 1976 with his degree.
After school he owned John’s Radio & TV in Roslyn N.Y. for many years.
John W2OEZ was the youngest Amateur Radio operator in the country at 12 years old.
He was introduced to Kathy by her nephew Mathew while doing volunteer work.
Mathew told his Aunt K that they were driving this man home, he also informed
her he gave John her phone # so she could date him. After 34 years they are still
together.
John is in the Guinness Book of World Records for an achievement of riding a
Unicycle being blind.
He played Beepball a modified softball game for the blind in his 60s.
He volunteered with the Palm Beach Sheriff for 22 years until he became ill.
John was the most positive person you will ever meet. He always advocated
for anyone blind or sighted telling them “you can do it, just try.”
John will be missed by all who were fortunate to have known and loved him.
His inspiration will live in our hearts forever.
Friends will be received on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, corner of US Hwy. #1 & NE 15th Avenue, Boynton Beach. The Funeral Mass will follow at 12 Noon on Thursday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Boynton Beach, Florida.
