JOHN WILLIAM HAWKEN SR.
age 82 of Boca Raton passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019.
John was born in Battle Creek, Michigan to the late Russell L. and Geraldine Bond Hawken. He graduated from Boca Ceiga High School in St. Petersburg, Florida Southern College in Lakeland and received his Master’s Degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
John was a mathematics teacher for 38 years and taught at Seacrest/Atlantic High School in Delray Beach and Boyd Anderson High School in Fort Lauderdale. He also taught at several of the Jr. Colleges in the area. He and his wife Ann were active members for 59 years of First United Methodist Church of Boynton Beach.
John and Ann loved to visit family, travel to the Carolinas and following retirement enjoyed many cruises. They enjoyed working with ceramics and John always had a book by his side.
John is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ann Fenton Hawken; 4 children, Cynthia, Neil and his wife Ginny, John J. (deceased) and his widow Susann, and Elizabeth and her husband Brian. 14 grandchildren: Rhonda, Monica (Cory), Adam, Sarah (Brandon), Rebecca (Matt), Holly, Danielle, Gretchan, Matthew, Avaleigh, Christine (Brian), Allison (Phillip), Kathleen, and Keith (Laura). 10 great grandchildren (with another one on the way). 2 brothers Robert, and Jerry. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, 101 N. Seacrest Blvd., Boynton Beach, Florida 33435. In celebration of John’s life, if you would please wear bright colors to the Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Boynton Beach in John’s memory.
