John Richard Eubanks was born in Panama City, Florida to Winfred Newton and Maxie Hidle Eubanks on March 2, 1938. He was the second of five children, Doyle Ray Eubanks (1932-2006), Donna Joan Eubanks (1939-2007), Winifred Jo Essma (1946-2016) and Thomas Newton Eubanks (1953-1976). Richard passed away in his home on October 2, 2020 surrounded by his wife, son and daughter-in-law.
Richard graduated from Bay County High School in 1956 and attended Florida State University where he graduated in 1960, but more importantly, he met the love of his life Katherine Garnett Eubanks. They were engaged after a whirlwind courtship and married on June 25, 1960. Over the next sixty years, outside of his service in the United States Marine Corps, Katherine was rarely far from his side. The two ultimately settled in Lantana, Florida where they raised two children Katherine Eubanks Hartmann and John Richard Eubanks, Jr.
Richard became a Certified Public Accountant and started his own firm, Guthrie Jacobs & Eubanks, where he worked for over 30 years until his retirement. During his professional life Richard was also a founding member of Lakeside United Methodist Church, as well as a deacon in Lake Osborne Presbyterian Church in Lake Worth. In retirement, Richard and Katherine fell in love with the North Georgia mountains where they could be found from Spring through Fall each year at their home in Sky Valley, Georgia entertaining friends and family.
Often found in photos surrounded in photos by others, his family will remember him as a faithful, gracious, generous, witty, trustworthy, and humble father, husband, grandfather, and friend. Richard is survived by his wife, daughter, son, son-in-law Mark Evan Hartmann, his daughter-in-law Katherine E. Eubanks, along with his six grandchildren, Evan Nicole Hartmann, James Maxwell Hartmann, John Phillip Hartmann, Julia Grace Hartmann, John Richard Eubanks, III, and Alexander Chase Eubanks.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will be holding a small, private service, but look forward to a celebration of Richard’s life in the future. In lieu of flowers, the family would request that donations be made in Mr. Eubanks’ name to Trustbridge Hospice Foundation (formerly Hospice of the Palm Beaches) at 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, Florida 33407 or online at Trustbridge.com by following this link:
