John “June” Churey, 87 of Boynton Beach passed from this life on Saturday, September 3, 2016. He was born July 10, 1929 in Shoaf, Pennsylvania and lived in Boynton Beach since 1956. Son of the late John and Catherine Janosik Chury, John was also predeceased by his two sisters, Erma Chury Halasz and Mary Chury Arendas and his brother, Joseph Chury. John married Thelma Radovich on January 26, 1952 and they celebrated 64 years of marriage.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Radovich Churey; two daughters, Sandra Churey Farrell (John), June Churey Townend (Ben); two sons, Robert Churey (Chris), John Churey Jr. (Karen); six grandchildren, Robert, Joey (Michelle), Maree, Benny, Lauren, Johnny; two great granddaughters, Shelby and Sierra; three sisters, Patricia “Becky” Cehula (Joe), Betty Kopas (Frank), Roseann McSheffery (Ken); two brothers, Charles “Judge” Chury (Clara Mae), Richard Chury (Elaine); sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Robert and Francis Marshall; and many nieces and nephews.
John, Thelma and their two children moved to Boynton Beach in 1956. He was a contractor and his legacy is Churey & Sons Construction. Back in the day, he poured most of the concrete and laid a lot of concrete blocks in Boynton Beach and the surrounding towns. He helped build Boynton Beach. He was the original constructor of the fountains welcoming visitors to Boynton Beach on Federal Highway as well as the original fountain at Boynton’s beach. John enjoyed teaching his sons, grandsons, nephew and many others the knowledge of the construction trade which they carry with them to this day. He has been an inspiration for so many. John worked hard, played hard and lived his life to the fullest. His humanity, kindness, zest for life and dancing to a Polka will be missed by family and friends. John was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church, a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and a lifetime member of American Legion Post #164 and V.F.W. Post 5335.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 4-8 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, corner of U.S. Hwy. #1 & N.E. 15th Ave., Boynton Beach. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 1:00 PM at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 643 St. Mark Place, Boynton Beach. Burial will be held Friday at 11:30 AM at the South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth (Lane 3).
