John R. Atcachunas, Jr.
John R. Atcachunas, Jr. of Ocean Ridge, Florida passed away Friday, May 29, 2026 in Trustbridge Hospice in Boynton Beach, Florida.
Born June 9, 1932 in Scranton Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John R. Atcachunas and late Anna Mae Stanavage Atcachunas.
John was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School where he excelled as a star basketball player and star baseball player. He briefly attended Penn State University, however, prior to graduating, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he achieved the ranking of Staff Sergeant during his four-year enlistment during the Korean War. It was when he was stationed at Camp Kilmer in Piscataway, New Jersey, where he met and married his wife, the late Constance DeSouza Atcachunas, and they raised their family of three children in South Plainfield, New Jersey.
Once honorably discharged from the Air Force, John became one of the original State Farm Insurance agents in the state of New Jersey and he operated his agency for State Farm in Plainfield and South Plainfield, New Jersey for 47 years before retiring to Florida.
John was a member of the American Legion Chaumont Post #243 in South Plainfield, as well as a member with his family of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in South Plainfield, New Jersey.
John “ACK” was an avid golfer and was a long-standing member of Battleground Country Club in Freehold, New Jersey, where he won several two-man championship tournaments and senior/super-senior championships and he even “shot his age” when he was in his mid-seventies.
In addition to his ex-wife and parents, John was preceded in death by his two sisters, Joanne M. Brady and Dolores Ruby.
He is survived by his three children: John M. Atcachunas, Maureen M. Atcachunas and Laura J. Atcachunas, as well as his three grandchildren: Christopher, Danielle and Michael, as well as his two great-grandchildren: Jessy and Jadalyn; and several nieces and nephews, as well as his partner, Lisa Wasilewski of Waretown, New Jersey.
John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle and a very generous friend to many and he will be deeply missed. We all feel truly blessed to have known him and grateful for all his unconditional love.
