Age 96 of Boynton Beach, FL went home to our Lord Jesus on March 31, 2018. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 29, 1921 to Julian and Regina (Eppig) Jollon. She graduated from Dominican Commercial High School in Jamaica, NY. She married Thomas Edward Kelly on June 1, 1946 at St. Joachim and Ann Catholic Church in Queens, Village, NY. They started their family and lived in Uniondale, LI before moving to Somerville, NJ where she lived for about 30 years. She worked as a secretary at Lockeed in North Plainfield, NJ and at Baker & Taylor in Somerville, NJ. Upon retiring, as a widow, she moved to Boynton Beach, FL where she lived happily for another 30+ years. She was a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church in Somerville, NJ and at St. Mark Catholic Church in Boynton Beach.
Joan is survived by six of her seven children: Maureen Fulop, Karen Knier, Kevin (Edie) Kelly, Brian (Debbie) Kelly, Patrick (Meghan) Kelly and Michael (Jennifer) Kelly, as well as her wonderful fourteen grandchildren: Daniel Knier III, Kevin Knier, Kara Knier Logan, Brian Kelly, Shea Kelly, Shannon Kelly, Jessica Kelly Willett, Kevin Kelly, Sarah Kelly, Mary Kelly, Quinn Kelly, Thomas J. Kelly, Ashlyn Kelly and Ryan Kelly. She has six beautiful great-grandchildren: Kyla Knier, Olivia and Christopher Knier, and Matthew, Jane and Danny Willett. Joan is also survived by her loving sisters, Clare Richards and Sally McGillicuddy and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Thomas E. Kelly and son, Thomas P. Kelly, her two sons-in-law, Stephen J. Fulop and Daniel C. Knier, Jr., her parents, her brother, Julian Jollon and Alfred Jollon, her sisters, Regina Hilpl and Helen King and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Joan loved going to the beach in Long Island, down the shore to Lavalette and Long Branch in NJ and to the beaches in Florida, both in Sarasota/Siesta Key and Boynton Beach where she spent many sunny days, basking in the sun. She enjoyed playing Bingo and watching sports, in person and on TV. She delighted in watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports, especially football and basketball, and baseball and softball until in her later years she could no longer see very well due to macular degeneration. She was an avid fan of the Marlins and Mets, the Dolphins, Jets and the NY Giants.
Joan lived a full and wonderful life, surrounded by her family and friends. She was known for frequently lending a helping hand to others and devoted herself to caring for others whenever needed, both family members and neighbors. Her love of family, faith, and country were very important to her and she made sure to impart that love to others. She loved all she met and always made them feel comfortable and part of her life. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her kind and generous heart and her love of life. Her memory will be cherished by all who had the joy of knowing her.
Friends and family will be received at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, corner of US Hwy. #1 & NE 15th Avenue, Boynton Beach on Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM with a prayer service at 7:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mark Catholic Church, 643 St. Mark Place, Boynton Beach, FL 33435 at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 6, 2018.
