Joan Ellen Duchaine – March 30, 1939-June 10, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Ellen Duchaine on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.

Joan was a loving and devoted mother, Memere, daughter, sister, aunt, nurse, and friend whose life was defined by her unwavering commitment to others.

Joan lived a life centered on faith, family, service, and compassion. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Marie Cordeiro Martel and Joseph Cordeiro, and by her brother, Leo Cordeiro.

She is survived by her son, Michael Duchaine (Amy Duchaine); her granddaughter, Dakota Duchaine Price (Archer Price); her daughter, Bonnie Pagano (Joe Pagano), her grandson and granddaughter, Joey Pagano and Brittany Ferguson; her grandson, Anthony Leoncini; her great-grandchildren, Haley and Braddock Ferretti; her sister, Pam Jordan (Edwin Jordan); her sister-in-law, Noreen Cordeiro; and her two nieces, one nephew, and their families. Joan’s family brought her immense joy and was the greatest source of pride in her life.

Joan’s strength and character were shaped early in life. After losing her father at a young age, she became an anchor for her family, stepping into a role far beyond her years. From that moment forward, she demonstrated the qualities that would define her life: sacrifice, devotion, resilience, and unconditional love.

Although she stood just five feet tall, Joan possessed a strength that far exceeded her stature. Her infectious laugh could fill a room, and her warm spirit made everyone around her feel welcome, valued, and loved. She had a unique gift for bringing comfort and joy to others, even during life’s most difficult moments.

For more than 30 years, Joan dedicated herself to serving others as a nurse. Among her proudest professional accomplishments were her years at Memorial Hospital and Shands Rehabilitation Hospital, where she touched countless lives through her compassion and dedication. Nursing was far more than a career to Joan—it was a calling. She cared for her patients with dignity, kindness, and empathy, offering comfort during their most vulnerable moments. Her commitment to helping others left a lasting impact on the lives of those she served and worked alongside.

To her family, Joan was the foundation upon which so much was built. She was a source of strength, wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love. Her son, Michael, often described her as his rock—the steady presence who helped shape him into the man he became. Her daughter, Bonnie, describes her as her ultimate strength and best friend. Her influence extended across generations, and her family finds comfort in seeing her warmth, strength, and loving spirit reflected in Dakota, Brittany, Joey, Anthony, Haley, and Braddock.

Joan treated everyone she met with kindness and respect. She believed that people mattered more than possessions and that the greatest measure of a life was found in love, faith, and relationships. Through both triumphs and hardships, she carried herself with grace and dignity, teaching those around her the values of perseverance, compassion, and unwavering faith.

Joan’s legacy is one of devotion—to her family, her faith, her profession, and her community. While her absence leaves an immeasurable void, her love and example will continue to guide those who knew and loved her.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by her remarkable spirit.

“Mom, thank you for your strength, your laughter, your kindness, and for being our rock. We will honor your memory by living the values you taught us and carrying your love forward every day. We love you and will miss you dearly.”

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23

May Joan’s memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved her. ❤️
