Johanna “Joan” Ayers (Porter), age 89, of Boynton Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on March 22, 2020.
Joan was born on June 12,1930 in Cleveland, Ohio to Gregory and Helen Janapolis. She grew up in Lakewood, Ohio and had three siblings: Victoria, Olympia (Bea) and Tom. She married Curtis Paul Porter in 1947. Together, they raised a family of 7 children. The Porter family moved to Boynton Beach in 1971, where Joan resided ever since. She was later remarried to Cephus (Spike) Ayers.
Joan spent time working as a nurse and was active in her retirement community, continuing her love of helping others. Always the extrovert, Joan had the gift of gab and loved socializing and meeting new people. This continued throughout her stay at the nursing home as she made many new friends. Joan loved spending time with her large family and was proud of her children. Joan was known for sending birthday cards with return address labels, encouraging others to stay in contact. She will be remembered for her great sense of humor, taking in stride the many jokes shared with family and friends.
Joan was survived by her children: Linda Stafford, Curtis Paul Porter II, Cathy Walker, Christine Bobadilla, Charles Porter, Gregory Porter, Robert Porter, their spouses, and many loving nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Private family services were held on Friday, May 8, 2020 at 4:00 PM at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, 599 N.E. 15th Ave., Boynton Beach, Florida. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Cleveland, Ohio.
