Jeremiah (Jerry) Patrick McMahon
of Spring Lake Heights, New Jersey and Boynton Beach, Florida was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 19,1924, the son of Irish immigrants, Margaret Kennedy and Thomas McMahon. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943, achieved the rank of Corporal and served as a radio gunner, AVIATION, until his honorable discharge in 1946. Jerry was a New York City Police Officer (NYPD) for five years before joining the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) retiring after thirty years in 1983. He was an avid skier, bicyclist, a reader of history and he loved his three dogs.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Margaret (nee Casey) and fifteen nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Terrence and Thomas, and his sister, Margaret.
A Visitation will be held Sunday, Feb.2nd from 2 to 5 pm at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, corner of U.S. Hwy. #1 & N.E. 15th Avenue, Boynton Beach, Florida. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, Feb.3rd at 12 noon at St. Mark's Church, 643 St. Mark Place, Boynton Beach. A Committal Service with Military Honors will follow at the South Florida V.A. National Cemetery, 6501 South State Road #7 (Hwy. #441), Lake Worth, Florida. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Ulster County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (UCSPCA), 20 Wiedy Road, Kingston, New York 12401 in memory of Jerry would be appreciated.
