Janet M. Wichern

Janet M. Wichern (nee McMechen), 79, of Boynton Beach, FL, a devoted matriarch whose love, warmth and strength centered her family for generations, peacefully passed away on June 22, 2026.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Janet has carried the spirit and resilience of her hometown with her throughout her life.

Janet was the beloved wife of the late Gerard J. Wichern, with whom she shared a beautiful life and marriage until his passing in 2020. Together they built a large, close-knit family founded on love, laughter, and lasting traditions.

Janet’s greatest joy was her family, and her legacy lives on through her five children: Christine (Jerry), Caryn (Steve), Jennifer (Herman), Gerard, and Jason (Janet).

Her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother brought an extra sparkle to her life. She took immense pride in watching her family grow, celebrating every milestone and cherishing every moment together. She is the proud grandmother of Danielle, Jerome, Ricky, Stephen (Courtney), Eva, Landin, Natalie; and Melinda, who preceded her in death and is now reunited with her in peace.

Janet was also blessed with the supreme joy of becoming a great-grandmother to Nathan, who brought her endless smiles and happiness.

Janet was the daughter of a loving family and grew up alongside her two brothers. She is survived by her brother Gene, and is pre-deceased by her brother, Richard.

Janet will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family, her kind heart, and the quiet strength she brought to everyone who knew her. Her memory will be forever treasured by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, brother, and a wide circle of extended family and friends.

A funeral service in memory of Janet will be held on Friday, July 24th at 11:00am at St. Mark Catholic Church, 643 NE Fourth Ave. Boynton Beach, FL. A celebration in her honor will immediately follow.
