JAMES “JIM” GROGAN WINTERS, II
Of Boynton Beach, Florida passed away on August 11, 2021 at 2 PM. He was 57 years old. Jim was born July 28, 1964 in West Palm Beach, FL to James and Patricia Winters, the youngest of 4 children and the only boy. He is survived by his 3 sisters, Pam Grantham, Susan Hoerber (Doug Hoerber) and Amanda Winters (Pat Ditto) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim graduated from John I. Leonard High School in 1982, where he was quarterback of the football team. He attended Georgia Tech University from 1982 to 1984 and then joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served from 1984 to 1988. He was married to Kim Winters for 8 years and had a son, James Daniel Winters on January 12, 1993. Jim reenlisted in the USMC for Desert Storm in 1990 and was in the Reserve Unit in Miami, Florida for a short time after. Jim received his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration in 1994 from Florida Atlantic University. Jim excelled in his career always, striving and advancing at Heritage, CMAC, Devcon and for 14 years at F.P.L. as a project controls and scheduling leader on wind and solar projects.
Jim and Cindy met by fate in January 1999 and married on May 5, 2004. He became stepdad to Kate H. Tomlinson and on July 29, 2005 William S. Winters was born. We enjoyed 17 years of marriage filled with so many experiences and adventures. Through it all our relationship endured and blossomed rooted in respect and a deep love for each other.
Jim reenlisted in the USMC in his 40’s earning him the title of “Old Man Winters” and deployed twice to Afghanistan in 2012 – 2014. He was an exemplary Marine earning numerous accolades, a great mentor, a patriot and a warrior. Overall he had almost 18 years of service in the United States Marine Corps and leaves behind experiences, memories, stories and strongly bonded Marine Corps brothers.
Jim was a diehard Miami Dolphin and Florida Panther fan. He begrudgingly gave up Georgia Tech football tickets and since the inception of the program became an FAU football fan, the alma mater of he and Cindy.
Jim was diagnosed with brain cancer in May 2018 and battled stoically through radiation, gamma knife surgery, biopsies and chemotherapy.
Jim was smart, courageous, strong, willing to help, expressive in his own way and a loving husband and father. He will remain in the hearts, minds and souls of those who shared his life.

Memorial Services will be held on September 10, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 188 South Swinton Avenue, Delray Beach, FL 33444 (561) 276-4541. A reception will follow in the Church Parish Hall. The Committal Service will be held at 2:30 PM on Friday, September 10, 2021 at the South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 South State Road 7, Lake Worth, FL 33449 (561) 649-6489 (Lane #3).
Please carpool since parking is limited at the church and for ease with the motorcade to the cemetery. Masks are encouraged but not required.
