James Morris Sebert Bridges was born in St John’s Antigua Barbuda on November 30, 1930 to Doris Smith and Dennis Bridges. He had seven siblings who are Rafael, Denzil, Foster Fitzroy (Deceased), Elfreda (Deceased), Ruppert (Deceased), Rudy (Deceased), Fitzroy (Deceased), and Doreen (Deceased)
As a young man, he was a professional fisherman and sailed to all the Caribbean Islands. His favorite island being Trinidad. Around this time James fathered 2 children with Audrey Murrain (decreased), 2 children with Millicent Mason (decreased) and one child with Avril Jarvis (decreased).
On October 24, 1957 he married Myrna C Charles (Deceased), they were married for 62 years and had twelve children (six boys, six girls; three of which died; Champ at age 1 and Dennis and Denzil, twin boys, who died one day after birth). The young couple relocated St Thomas USVI where he spent quality time with his brothers and his children.
In 1969 James and Myrna moved to New York City, NY. While in New York, he was a Painter for the Hospital of Joint Diseases and NYU Medical Center where he finally retired. He served as regional Delegate for 1199 SEIU. He enjoyed playing softball and was a very avid fan of the New York Yankees.
If there was a magic number to be played, he played it. He enjoyed Caribbean Rum and Ponche Kuba cream liqueur. On the weekend(s), he loved to listen to the Caribbean music and danced with his wife and children. He was a very strict but caring father who helped enforced with his wife, the upbringing of their children with the morals and values of the Church. In the later years, he loved to talk about the good ol’ days to anyone who would listen.
James, Mr Bridges, Daddy, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Great Great Grandpa and Friend is survived by Islin, Janet, Gloria, Joycelyn (Deceased), Violet, Dolston “Champ” (Deceased), Patricia, Marilyn “Peg”, Cheryl, Denzil (Deceased), Dennis (Deceased), Hanif, Doris, James Jr, Lisa “Mickey”, Dolston “Jerry” and Myrna “Tina”, and many many, many Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren (too many to count).
The family request donations be made to Safe Horizon in James’ name.
Friends will be received at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, corner of US Hwy. #1 & NE 15th Avenue, Boynton Beach on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM with the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery in Antigua.
