Horst (Henry) Dieter Leschke, born on March 11, 1935 passed away on December 15, 2020 at the age of 85. He was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, and met his wife there 18 years later. They got married in 1957 and has had 63 amazing years together.
His legacy lives through his wife, Ilse Leschke, his siblings, Karin & Ilse & Anne Grethe, his best friends, Otto Michaelis and Erhard & Janet Schnoes, and his two sons and their families: Richard Leschke & Jack Frielingsdorf; Fred Leschke & Laura Leschke, and their children, Alissa
Leschke & Krista (Leschke) Pierce, along with her husband Adam Pierce; Nichole (Leschke) Baggley, and Henry’s great grand-daughters, Dakota & Miranda Adams.
Henry and Ilse left Germany in 1958 and moved to Queens, New York. Henry learned upholstery in Germany, so when he came to the states, he eventually put his craftsmanship to work and became a self-employed upholsterer with his own business. Shortly after, they moved to Yorktown Heights, New York and lived there for 37 years. In that house in their pool shed, Henry and his friend, Eric Baal, put together a band called The Shed House Boys by playing their accordions together. Henry and Eric began playing for German Oktoberfests and for their friends and families on special occasions. Henry was also an avid bowler, as he was the Anchor for his league, winning numerous trophies with his team. Henry and Ilse moved to Bennington, Vermont in 2013, and they share their time between there and Boynton Beach each year.
Henry is a beloved husband, father, Opa (grandfather), and friend to many in a multitude of states and countries. He was extremely intentional with his loved ones and everyone he met, and he will be greatly missed.
Henry’s wishes are to have a beer and “be happy” in remembrance of who he is, was, and forever will be.
